“You have to network!” -Sure. But how?
You’re relatively new in Norway. You’re applying for roles. You’re getting nowhere.
“You have to network!” you’re told.
Sounds familiar? We all know that networks are key, but what, exactly, is a network and how do you go about building one in a new place? We think it’s important to remember that networks are people you have a relationship with. People who -hopefully!- trust you and who you trust in turn. Those relationships require an effort, and they take time to build and maintain. Showing up at an event and telling everyone that you’re looking for work is unlikely to yield much, I’m afraid. Showing up, consistently, over time, connecting with the same people and giving something of value, on the other hand. That builds relationships.
