🇬🇧/🇳🇴 Soft launch, the Kompetansebro project

Kompetansebro Soft Launch

“I completely underestimated how much time and energy it would take to figure things out, to start learning the language, to meet people, and to get the kids settled! It took too long to start applying for jobs. If I’d known, I would have started learning the language and building a network sooner—before we even arrived in Norway.”

“There is more than enough information. So much information! It was difficult to navigate all the different channels and figure out where to start and what to prioritize.”

Having worked with international job seekers for years, we know that the challenge is rarely a lack of information. It's about navigating it: finding the right groups, the right people, and knowing what to prioritize first.

Kompetansebro brings together vetted information, organizations, and resources for international residents in one place: from pre-boarding, through arrival, to job searching and the mentor program. It also provides partner organizations across Norway with more systematic access to our expertise and to the mentor program.

Kompetansebro is funded by Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank, with technical support from Accenture, development funding from The PA Foundation, and (so far) pro bono resources from Unique Communication and Hervé Gaudin / Norsk konsulent. Haugaland Vekst, Visit Jæren, Blizbi, and Caritas Stavanger are collaboration partners.

What to expect
A walkthrough of the landing page, and a chance to meet some of the people behind the project, as well as some of the people it serves. The opportunity to provide feedback and help shape the direction of the project.

Good conversations, a drink, and a bite to eat.

Who it's for
s from other countries, those who hire international employees or support an international workforce, and anyone working on integration, workforce participation, or social sustainability.

Speakers

  • Erik Løland from Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank will tell us what the foundation saw in this project.

  • Laura Buchan moved to Norway with her family when her partner was offered a job there. Living in Norway had been their goal for some time. Laura never imagined it would be this difficult to find work: it took her a couple of years—and many detours—to settle on a strategy and find an employer who recognized her value. She now works at Lærdal Medical. She will share her journey—what she wishes she had known before moving, and what she would have done differently if she’d had better information.

  • Tone Indrelid, a Sammen om en jobb n Rogaland, developed Kompetansebro. She will present the data behind the project and a mockup of the finished landing page.
