Welcome to our digital community and learning platform!

🎬 Watch a video of the online community here (older version).

Sammen om en jobb Its online community and learning platform is a tailor-made platform with everything you need, whether you’re new to Norway and looking for a relevant job, a mentor who has just started a mentoring relationship, or a company or employer seeking multicultural talent. The online community includes the following main features:

  1. Self-matching

  2. Mentoring Plan

  3. Events

  4. Learning

  5. Networks

  6. Groups.

Each of these is described in detail in this article.

Self-coupling

What is self-coupling?

Self-matching is a feature that will be launched soon. It allows mentors and job seekers to find each other on their own and start a mentoring relationship. Some of the key benefits of this include:

  • Full control over the matching process because you yourself know better what to look for in your mentor/mentee than a coordinator from Sammen om en jobb.

  • Shorter wait times. When you make the connection yourself, you only need to wait for a response from the person you want to connect with, without involving coordinators.

  • Free up time for Sammen om en jobb. When we at Sammen om en jobb don’t have to make all the connections manually, we have more time to make the digital community even better and to help those who need a little extra support.

How do I connect it myself?

When you go to “Self-Matching,” you’ll see a matching box where you can find other mentors or job seekers by filtering based on 12 different criteria. If you click “Search” without selecting any criteria, you’ll see a list of all participants who are available for matching in the category opposite your own (job seekers see mentors, and mentors see job seekers).

You can then find participants who match your profile by selecting various criteria. If no participants appear when you click “search,” you’ve probably been too specific. In that case, try broadening your search a little more. Remember that you don’t have to be a perfect match in every area for the mentoring program to be successful.

To view more information about each person, tap their name to see their full profile. If you think the person meets your expectations, you can send a connection request. The person will then receive a notification and an email, and will have one week to respond. If the person wants to connect with you, the next step is to schedule a connection meeting to get to know each other better. Read more about how to have a successful match meeting here.

After the matching meeting, it’s important that you send a message to your contact at Sammen om en jobb —whether you’d like to be matched with the other person or not. If the match isn’t a good fit, you can start over. If you both want to be matched, we welcome you and wish you the best of luck with the mentoring program!

Mentoring Plan

The "Mentor Plan" feature is only visible to you if you are in an active mentoring relationship. First, tap "Mentor Plan," then tap the number to the left of their names to go to the correct page.

Mentorplan is a dashboard that contains most of the information you need to keep a complete overview of the mentoring process (see image). Here you can:

  1. View your own profile and your mentor's or mentee's profile

  2. See where you are in the mentoring program and how much time is left

  3. Get suggestions for meeting topics, as well as exercises and sample agendas for each topic (click on the topic to view them)

  4. Set Goals and Track Progress

  5. Keep a log of each meeting (this is mandatory for the trainee)

  6. Communicate, share documents, etc.

Events

Under “Events,” you can see everything that’s happening at Sammen om en jobb. Every year, we host over 100 events in Norwegian or English. Most events take place in Oslo, Stavanger, or online. Click on the events to see more information and who else will be attending. If you register, you’ll receive a confirmation two days before the event begins. Although most events are posted at the start of each semester, some are added throughout the semester, so it’s a good idea to check the calendar from time to time.

Learning

In the learning section, you’ll find approximately 100 tools, resources, and exercises spread across 30 course modules. These cover most of what you need, whether you’re a job seeker in a new country or a first-time mentor. Each module is tailored to help you strengthen your job search profile and job search skills, and together they cover most of what you need on your path to a relevant job. In addition, 24 of the modules include a sample agenda for how you can work on the topic during a meeting with your mentor or mentee. This means that if you’re part of the mentoring program and want to meet with your mentor or mentee as often as once a week, we always have a suggested topic and all the tools and resources you need. Below are some of the modules.

Networks

Under “Network,” you can see all the participants who are part of the online community. In the top-left corner, you can choose whether you want to view mentees (job seekers) or mentors. The list shows basic information such as educational background, city, languages, etc. Clicking on a name takes you to that person’s profile for more information. You can edit the information on your own profile by clicking your name in the top right corner —> “My Profile” —> “Edit.”

If you see someone on the network whom you think would be interesting to get to know, you can send them a message. To do this, tap your name in the upper-right corner —> “Messages” —> “New.”

Groups

In “Groups,” you can ask questions, share tips and experiences, get to know other participants, schedule meetings, and get feedback on your resume, job applications, video pitches, etc. The more active you are in helping others, the more help you’ll receive yourself. There are over 20 different groups. The most important groups to know about are:

  • One group for all participants, one for all mentees (job seekers), and one exclusively for mentors.

  • Groups organized by field of study. Join the group that best matches your field (engineers, economists, etc.) to share tips and ask questions specific to your field.

  • Groups organized by region (Oslo, Rogaland, Hallingdal, etc.). Join the group for your region to get local tips and meet others who live nearby.

As a participant, you can also create your own groups, such as the “Green Expertise” group, which was created by a mentor to discuss everything related to the green transition and renewable energy.

You can choose whether or how you want to be notified about activity in the groups. Read more about this in the next section.

Profile and Settings

To edit your profile and settings, tap your name in the upper-right corner. Here are the most important features:

  • My Profile: Here you can edit your personal information. Most of this information is visible to the other participants. On this page, you can also send messages to the other participants. To do this, tap “New” on the far right and search for the person(s) you want to message.

  • Settings: Here you can choose which types of notifications you want to receive.

  • Messages: Here you can view and reply to messages from other participants.
