As a member of Sammen om en jobb’s Learning and Network Community, you get access to weekly courses and events, over 80 tools and resources, over 20 groups where you can meet others and get answers to specific questions, as well as Norway’s largest network of mentors and highly skilled job seekers. If you use the community effectively, it can go a long way toward helping you find a relevant job, but with so many features, it can be hard to know where to start. In this article, you’ll find ten tips on how to get the most out of the community.
1. REGISTER ON THE DIGITAL PLATFORM 👩🏿💻
The digital platform provides an overview of everything you need to know. If you are not yet a member, you can sign up here.
2. JOIN GROUPS 📌
Once you've logged into the digital platform, go to "Groups." Be sure to select “All active groups” in the top right corner. Join the relevant groups to make sure you don't miss out on important tips and information.
3. SAY HI! 👋
Find the group that's the best fit for you and introduce yourself. Write a short description of who you are and what kind of job you're looking for. You can also upload your resume or VideoCV. It's okay if your resume isn't quite perfect—maybe you could ask if anyone has any tips on how to make it even better?
4. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE ✏️
Once you have introduced yourself, other participants may want to know more about who you are, your background, and what kind of job you are looking for in Norway. Make sure your profile is up to date by clicking on your name in the upper right corner, and then “My profile.”
5. ATTEND THE EVENT 🗓
It isn't always easy to get to know others through a digital platform. In that case, our courses and events might be a better option for you, while also helping you improve your job-search skills. You can find an overview of upcoming events here, or under "Events" on the digital platform.
6. START AN ONLINE COURSE 🎓
If the time or topic of our events doesn't work for you, our online courses are a good alternative. The online courses can be found under "Learning" on the platform and include more than 80 resources, spread across 24 modules. Together, these cover most of what you need as a new job seeker in Norway, and you can complete the course whenever it's convenient for you.
7. ASK A QUESTION 🙋🏾♀️
If you have specific questions about your own job search, you can ask them under "Groups." Perhaps you have a resume or an application you'd like feedback on? Or are you wondering what kinds of questions are typically asked in a job interview? Or which companies operate in your industry in Norway? Find the group that best suits your needs and ask your question! You can ask anything you want related to job searching and Norwegian work culture!
8. HELP OTHERS 💛
The community and the “Groups” only work if we help each other. It is therefore important that you also answer questions from other participants whenever possible, and that you share tips, resources, or job openings that may be relevant to others. This is also the best way to network, because if you help others, others will want to help you.
9. CONTACT 💬
Under "Network," you can see other participants who are part of the community. Maybe there's someone it would be helpful to get to know? You can send a message to other participants by clicking on your name in the top right corner, then selecting "messages." Keep in mind that not everyone uses the platform actively or has the same amount of time. If you don't get a reply, try someone else.
10. SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER ✉️
Once a month, we send out a newsletter featuring the latest news, useful tips, and an overview of upcoming events. You can sign up for the newsletter here, and unsubscribe at any time.
11. ADJUST YOUR OWN SETTINGS ⚙️
Do you receive too many emails and notifications from the digital platform? Or would you like to be notified more frequently? You can customize your settings by clicking on your name in the top right corner, then selecting "Settings."
