As a member of Sammen om en jobb ’s Learning and Networking Community, you’ll gain access to weekly courses and events, over 80 tools and resources related to job hunting in Norway, over 20 groups where you can meet others and get answers to personal questions, as well as Norway’s largest network of mentors and highly educated job seekers. If you use the community effectively, it can take you a long way toward a relevant job, but with so many features, it can be a little difficult to know where to start. In this article, you’ll find ten tips on what you can do to get the most out of the community.
1. SIGN UP ON THE DIGITAL PLATFORM 👩🏿💻
The digital platform gives you an overview of everything you need to know. If you aren't a member yet, you can become one and sign up here.
2. JOIN GROUPS 📌
Once you've logged into the digital platform, go to “Groups.” Be sure to select “All active groups” in the upper right corner. Join the groups that are relevant to you to get important tips and information.
3. SAY HI! 👋
Find the group that’s the best fit and introduce yourself! For example, write a short description of who you are and what kind of job you’re looking for. You can also upload your resume or video resume. It’s okay if your resume isn’t perfect—maybe you can ask if anyone has tips on how to make it even better? The purpose of these groups is to help you get answers to your questions.
4. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE ✏️
Once you've introduced yourself, other participants may want to know more about who you are, your background, and what kind of job you're looking for in Norway. Make sure your profile is up to date by going to
5. ATTEND AN EVENT 🗓
It’s not always easy to get to know others through a digital platform. That’s why our courses and gatherings are a great way to meet others while improving your job-search skills. You can find an overview of upcoming events here, or under “Events” on the digital platform.
6. TAKE AN ONLINE COURSE 🎓
If the timing or topic of our events doesn’t work for you, our online courses are a great alternative. You’ll find the online courses under “Learning” on the platform; they include more than 80 resources spread across 24 topics. Together, these cover most of what you need as a new job seeker in Norway, and you can take the course whenever it’s convenient for you.
7. ASK A QUESTION 🙋🏾♀️
If you have specific questions about your own job search, you can ask them under “Groups.” Find the group that best fits your situation and ask your question. Maybe you have a resume or cover letter you’d like feedback on? Or are you wondering what typical questions are asked in a job interview? Or which companies operate in your industry in Norway? Under “Groups,” you can ask anything you want related to job hunting and Norwegian work culture!
8. HELP OTHERS 💛
The digital platform only works if we help each other. That’s why it’s important that you, too, answer questions from other participants when you can, and that you share tips, resources, or job openings that might be relevant to others. This is the best way to build a network, because if you help others, others will help you, too.
9. CONTACT US 💬
Under “Network,” you can see other participants who are part of the community. Maybe there’s someone here it would be helpful to get to know? You can send a message to other participants by tapping your name in the top right corner, then selecting “Messages.” Keep in mind that not everyone uses the platform actively or has the same amount of time. If you don’t get a reply, try reaching out to someone else instead.
10. SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER ✉️
Once a month, we send out a newsletter with the latest news, helpful tips, and an overview of upcoming events. You can sign up for the newsletter here, and unsubscribe whenever you like.
11. ADJUST YOUR SETTINGS ⚙️
Do you feel like you’re getting too many emails and notifications from the digital platform? Or do you want to be notified every single time something happens? If so, you might want to change your settings. To change your settings, tap your name in the upper-right corner, then select “Settings.”
