As soon as you are accepted into the mentoring program, we will begin looking for a suitable mentor. In this module, you will learn about the matching process and what you can do to increase your chances of being matched with a mentor.

There are three ways to get a mentor:

On this page, we'll walk you through how we work to connect you, while on the following pages you can learn more about self-matching and recruiting your own mentor.

How do we connect?

When we accept you into the mentoring program, the first thing we do is check to see if we have a suitable mentor available. Key criteria we consider include:

  • Field of Study

  • Location

  • Language

  • Time

  • Needs

Introducing each other's profiles

If we find a mentor we think might be a good fit, we’ll call both of you and introduce each other’s profiles. If you both think it sounds like an interesting match, you’ll be invited to a matchmaking meeting. If you don’t think the other person’s profile is a good fit, we’ll try again. It’s important that you’re clear from the start if you don’t think the match is a good fit, but it’s also important that you’re open to being matched with someone whose background is somewhat different from your own.

Coordination Meeting

The matchmaking meeting is an informal gathering to get to know each other better and see if you’d like to be matched. You can organize the matchmaking meeting on your own with the help of our guide, or we can be there for the first few minutes to introduce you to each other. After the matchmaking meeting, you’ll have 1–2 days to think it over before we contact you by phone to ask if you’d like to be matched. If both of you agree, the match is officially set, and you’ll immediately gain access to the“mentor plan”feature on the digital platform. If you don’t want to be matched, we’ll try again.

Time Spent

The matching process can take anywhere from a few days to several months, depending on whether we have mentors available and how open you are to being matched with someone from a slightly different background. Also keep in mind that we don’t have enough mentors for everyone, so we can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to match you. You can speed up the process yourself by using self-matching or recruiting your own mentor outside of Sammen om en jobb.
