The ideal size of a job network is 5-9 people. Whether you are starting a network from scratch or just trying to find a person or two more to join your existing network, this guide shows you exactly how to recruit them.
When to recruit?
In general, you should try to recruit people as early as possible. However, it is quite common that people who have initially signed up end up not joining, which means that even though you start off with a well sized network, you might have to do some more recruiting after the first meeting, when you have a clearer view of how many people will actually join.
Example invitation
Below is an example of an invitation you can send to recruit someone to your job network. Make the changes you see fit to the invitation:
Title: Would you like to join a job network for [professional field] in [city]?
Hi [name],
My name is [your name], and I’m currently organizing a job network for professionals in [professional field] in [city].
A job network is a small group (5–9 participants) of professionals who are actively seeking relevant work opportunities. We meet eight times over a defined period. Each session focuses on one practical topic related to navigating the Norwegian job market within our field — such as networking strategies, applications, interviews, understanding employer expectations, and mutual accountability.
The purpose of the group is to strengthen motivation and job seeking structure, share knowledge, tips and contacts, and support each other in concrete job-seeking efforts.
We plan to meet at [location] on [day/time], with the first meeting taking place on [date].
Please let me know by [optional deadline] if you would like to join.
Best regards,
[Your Name]
Recruiting within Sammen om en jobb
Sammen om en jobb is one of Norways largest communities of professionals who are new to Norway with 400+ job seekers and growing. This means that you likely have several others with a similar background, perhaps even in your city. That makes Sammen om en jobb a great place to start recruiting people for your job network.
There are two primary ways you can recruit people from the Sammen om en jobb community. In our digital platform you can do targeted recruitment under “Network”. Here you can filter by professional field, location and more, which means you can find people with a very specific professional background if you wish. Secondly, you can recruit by posting and invitation to the job network under “Groups”. We have groups for most major professional fields and the cities where we have the most members.
It is worth noting that not everyone are super responsive, which means you probably have to reach out to more people than the exact number you aim to recruit.
Recruiting outside of Sammen om en jobb
Recruiting participants from outside of Sammen om en jobb is also highly encouraged, such as:
Existing group members invite people in their network
Spreading the word in relevant arenas, events etc.
Shareing a message in relevant Facebook groups or on LinkedIn
The only requirement for joining a job network is to be a member of Sammen om en jobb and pay the symbolic monthly 50kr membership fee for the duration of the job network.
Too many people?
If you end up with too many people in your network, don’t worry! The upper limit of 9 people is a recommendation, not a requirement. It is very common that not everyone join each session. Below are a few common challenges with too big job networks and suggestions on how to solve them.
Too many people to have good discussions: Split the group in two; either into two completely separate groups with separate facilitators and meeting times, or by continuing to meet up the whole group, but then splitting the group upon meeting, or before exercises that could benefit from a smaller group.
To many people for individual feedback in exercises: Many exercises are structured in a way where each person gets personalised feedback (e.g. on LinkedIn or list of relevant employers). If the group is too big for this, either split the group for these exercises, or organises this as a follow up activity that the group does before the next meeting.
Difficult to find a meeting time: Choose the time that fits the most participant, or the time that was set by the original group before new members joined.
